چکیده

Motion detection can play an important role in many vision tasks. Yet image motion can arise from \uninteresting" events as well as interesting ones. In this paper, salient motion is de ned as motion that is likely to result from a typical surveillance target (e.g., a person or vehicle traveling with a sense of direction through a scene) as opposed to other distracting motions (e.g., the scintillation of specularities on water, the oscillation of vegetation in the wind). We propose an algorithm for detecting this salient motion that is based on intermediate-stage vision integration of optical ow. Empirical results are presented that illustrate the applicability of the proposed methods to real-world video. Unlike many motion detection schemes, no knowledge about expected object size or shape is necessary for rejecting the distracting motion.

Detecting Salient Motion by Accumulating Directionally-Consistent Flow

ÐMotion detection can play an important role in many vision tasks. Yet image motion can arise from auninterestingo events as well as interesting ones. Dynamic motion analysis using wavelet flow surface images

We have developed a motion analysis method that combines the wavelet transform with the ow surface image technique. In dynamic navigation environments, whenever objects move, the projections of the objects onto the image plane also move. These projections build over time spatiotemporal surfaces of their movement and volumes created by the surfaces. This paper presents a new method for the inter...

Motion and Depth Perception using Spatiotemporal Frequency Analysis

Motion information is extracted by identifying the temporal signature associated with the textured objects in the scene. In this paper, we present a new computational framework for motion perception. Our methodology considers spatiotemporal frequency (STF) domain analysis to extract the optical ow information. First, we show that a sequence of image frames can be used to extract the motion para...

A Directionally Selective Motion-detecting Neurone in the Brain of the Locust: Physiological and Morphological Characterization

1. The anatomy and physiology of a directionally selective motion-detecting (DSMD) neurone in the locust are described. The neurone was descending, with the cell body in the protocerebrum. The axon lay in the dorsolateral quadrant of the nerve cord and has been traced as far as the metathoracic ganglion. It arborized, ipsilateral to the cell body, from the dorsal intermediate tract (DIT) in the...

Break Detection and Camera MotionClassi cation in Digital

In this paper we describe methods using 2D-pixel motion elds for detecting shot breaks and classifying camera motion in digital video. These ow elds can be calculated with optical ow or correlation matching. The Karhunen-Loe ve transform (KLT), based on statistical properties, insures extraction of optimal linear features from ow elds representing a particular motion class. Two methods for clas...
